American Indians and the Great Recession

The Economic Policy Institute issued two briefs on December 8, 2010 describing the impact of the recession on unemployment and economic disparities among American Indians.  The reports reflect national and regional data, and detail how American Indians have been impacted and deprived in their own communities.

2009 NCDOT Disparity Study

Based on data from the 2009 Disparity Study, NCDOT made the decision to exclude American Indians (along with Asian Americans) from their state-funded Minority Business Program until 2014.  After the ruling, NCIEDI partnered with NCDOT to promote awareness and improve outreach efforts for Indian businesses in North Carolina.

If you have been affected by this decision, please contact NCDOT Project Facilitator, Kelsie Ballance at support@nciedi.org or (919) 232-9414 ext. 6124 for more information.
